Pesky Pigeon

Protecting your property from pesky pigeons

Although we try to get on with all our feathered friends, some are a lot less lovable than others. Feral pigeons are one of those unfavourable birds. Congregating in town and city centres, they’re quite happy to dine upon our discarded food or scavenge for crumbs. When you think about it, it’s probably a good thing they only have 40 taste buds.

Left to their own devices, pigeons can quickly become a pest – especially in large numbers. Their droppings are pretty unpleasant for a start. Full of bacteria and other disease-causing nasties, it looks horrible and can seriously damage your property in enough quantities. Pigeons can also be a big problem for your business if you’re in the food industry.

Not everyone hates these foul feral fowls. Peregrine falcons are actually quite fond of pigeons but only because they make a tasty snack. Unleashing a flock of falcons in the middle of Burgess Hill probably won’t go down well. So how do you deal with pesky pigeons?

Well, a good start would be to give us a call. We’ll determine the best method to use based on how determined those critters are to access the problem area. After carrying out an initial survey (which won’t cost you a penny), we’ll get to work preventing birds from bothering you. Our pest control methods include:

  • Pin spikes – a common sight on ledges, these metal or plastic pins prevents pigeons from landing on that surface
  • Gel systems – this prevents perching as the gel feels unstable and very unpleasant under a pigeon’s feet
  • Post-and-wire systems – this method stops bids from gaining a foothold on your property
